The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced recalls of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed.
Product: Bausch & Lomb ReNu with MoistureLoc solution
Company: Bausch & Lomb of Rochester, N.Y.
Hazard: The ReNu with MoistureLoc solution has been proposed as a potential root cause of an increased risk of Fusarium keratitis. The fungal infection is an inflammation of the cornea that can lead to vision loss. Bausch & Lomb has permanently removed this product worldwide.
Incidents/injuries: As of May 18, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had received reports of 130 confirmed cases of Fusarium keratitis. Among these cases, 64% reported using Bausch& Lomb's ReNu with MoistureLoc alone, and 12% reported using MoistureLoc with another product.
Remedy: Stop using the product and switch to another solution. Contact the company to receive a coupon for ReNu MultiPlus or original ReNu Multi-Purpose Solution, or request a form to return your bottle and request a refund.
