The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced recalls of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed.
Two companies are recalling necklaces because they contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.
Product: Children's butterfly necklaces
Units: 29,000
Manufacturer: U.S. Toy Co. Inc., of Grandview, Mo.
Description: The silver-colored necklaces have multicolored pendants shaped as butterflies. The pendant hangs from a silver-colored chain.
Sold by: U.S. Toy Co. retail stores, at www.ustoy.com,and children's and small discount stores nationwide from October 2005 through November 2006 for about $4 per dozen.
Remedy: Take the recalled jewelry away from children and return the necklaces to the store where purchased for a free replacement product, or contact U.S. Toy Company for information on returning necklaces purchased on the Web site.
