Hazard: The lid supports on the toy chests attached to the beds fail to prevent the lid from closing too quickly, posing an entrapment and strangulation hazard to young children.

Incidents: CPSC received one report of a death involving a 22-month-old boy from Roseville, Calif. He was strangled when the toy chest lid fell on the back of his head and entrapped his neck on the edge of the chest of a LaJolla Boat Bed.

Description: The LaJolla Boat Bed and the Pirates of the Caribbean Twin Trundle Bed have preassembled toy chests in the shape of a ship or boat’s bow attached to the beds as a footboard.

Sold at: Costco and furniture retail stores nationwide and from January 2006 through May 2008 for $700 to $1,400.
