The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. Consumers can submit reports of harm to CPSC’s new searchable online product safety database at www.SaferProducts.gov. Hazard: The full-size crib’s drop-side rail hardware can break or fail, allowing the drop side to detach from the crib. An infant or toddler’s body can become entrapped in the space, and be strangled, suffocate or fall out of the crib. The portable crib’s drop-side rail hardware can break or fail, allowing the drop side to detach from the crib or fall unexpectedly. The mattress support hardware and drop-side release latch can break easily, and the slats can loosen or break and detach from the crib. Children also can cut themselves on exposed hardware inside the cribs.
Description: The drop-side wooden cribs are painted or stained in black, cherry, dark brown, natural, white and pink. Full-size crib models recalled are 613, 615, 616, 617, 619, 628 and 639. The model number and “Dream on Me Inc.” are printed on a label on the inside of one of the end panels. Portable crib models recalled are 621, 625 and 627. The model number and “Dream on Me Inc.” are printed on a label on the mattress board.
Sold at: Toys ‘R’ Us, Walmart and Target stores and at Amazon.com. Full-size cribs were sold from January 2006 to December 2009 for about $200. Portable cribs were sold from September 2007 to December 2009 for about $150.
Remedy: Contact the company. Customers with full-size cribs will be given a free kit to immobilize the drop side. Customers with portable cribs can receive a free replacement portable crib with fixed sides.
