The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. Consumers can submit reports of harm to CPSC’s new searchable online product safety database at www.SaferProducts.gov. Sweetwater, Tenn.; and Waterway Plastics, of Oxnard, Calif.
Hazard: The drain covers were incorrectly rated to handle the flow of water through the cover, which poses an entrapment hazard to swimmers.
Description: Recalled are various pool and spa drain covers identified by the manufacturers’ name and model information sold between December 2008 and April 2011. The following companies are offering a replacement or retrofitting: A&A (www.aamfg.com); AquaStar (www.aquastarpoolproducts.com); Color Match (www.poolfittings.com); Custom Molded Products (www.c-m-p.com); Hayward Pool Products (www.hayward-pool.com); Rising Dragon (www.risingdragonplastics.com); Waterway (www.waterwayplastics.com) and Pentair Water Pool & Spa (www.pentairpool.com) sold between June 2009 and April 2011.
Sold through: Independent distributors to professional pool and spa builders and installers.
Remedy: Contact the manufacturer for a replacement or retrofit. Except for kiddie pools, wading pools and in-ground spas, retrofit or replacement of installed covers are not required in pools with multiple drain systems or gravity drainage systems or for covers installed before Dec. 19, 2008.
