The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. Consumers can submit reports of harm to CPSC’s new searchable online product safety database at www.SaferProducts.gov. Units: About 183,000 toilet locks and 685,000 cabinet locks

Importer: Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) Inc., of Columbus, Ind.

Hazard: Young children can disengage the toilet locks and gain access to water in the toilet, posing a risk of drowning. Children also can disengage the cabinet locks, giving them access to dangerous items.

Description: Safety 1st Sure Fit toilet locks (model numbers 48003 and 48103) attach to the tank behind the lid. Safety 1st cabinet slide locks (model numbers 12013 and 12014) attach to cabinet knobs or handles.

Sold at: Bed Bath & Beyond, Burlington Coat Factory, Great Beginnings, Home Depot, Target and Walmart from January 2005 through April 2010 for $8 to $20 for the toilet locks, and from January 2000 through March 2009 for $2 to $11 for the cabinet locks. Amazon.com sold both locks through April 2012.

Remedy: Remove the locks and store dangerous items out of reach of children and prevent unsupervised access to bathrooms. Contact DJG for a free replacement lock.
