The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. Consumers can submit reports of harm to CPSC’s searchable online product safety database at www.SaferProducts.gov. Manufacturer: American Mattress Manufacturing, of Atlanta
Hazard: The mattresses are a fire hazard.
Description: American Mattress Manufacturing’s rebuilt twin, full, queen and king-size mattresses, and mattresses with built-in “bunkie” boards are used mattresses that were stripped to the springs and rebuilt by American Mattress Manufacturing in a variety of fabrics and colors. They have a yellow tag with “American Mattress Mfg. Co., 1899 Metropolitan Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30315.” Rebuilt mattresses with a federal tag indicating that they meet the federal mattress flammability standard are not recalled.
Sold at: Mattress stores in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi from December 2010 through September 2011 for $30 to $200.
Remedy: Contact American Mattress Manufacturing to have the mattress sets picked up, rebuilt to be compliant with the federal flammability standards and returned.
