The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. Consumers can submit reports of harm to CPSC’s searchable online product safety database at www.SaferProducts.gov. Units: About 600,000
Hazard: The cord attached to the baby monitor’s sensor pad is placed under the crib mattress. A child can pull the cord into the crib. If the cord becomes wrapped around the child’s neck, he or she can strangle.
Incidents: Two infants have been strangled by cords and died.
Description: The Angelcare Movement and Sound Baby Monitors include a sensor pad placed under the crib mattress to monitor a baby’s movement. An electrical cord about 11 feet long is permanently connected from the sensor pad to the nursery monitor unit. All versions of Angelcare sensor monitors, including model numbers AC1100, AC201, AC300, AC401 AC601 and 49255, that did not include rigid cord covers are recalled. The model number is on the back of the nursery monitor unit. Monitors were manufactured between 1999 and 2013.
Sold at: Babies R Us/Toys R Us, Burlington Coat Factory, Meijer, Sears, Walmart, Amazon.com, Target.com, Overstock.com and other small baby specialty stores from October 1999 through September 2013 for about $100 to $300.
Remedy: Place cords out of reach of children and contact Angelcare for a repair kit that includes protective cord covers through which the sensor pad cords can be threaded, a warning label about the strangulation risk and revised instructions.
