The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. Units: About 2.2 million

Hazard: Children can unzip the zipper, crawl inside the bean bag chairs, get trapped and suffocate or choke on the chair’s foam beads.

Incidents: A 13-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl died after suffocating from lack of air and inhaling the chair’s foam beads. Both children were found inside the chairs.

Description: The recalled bean bag chairs have two zippers and were sold in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors and fabrics. They include round or L-shaped, vinyl or fabric, and are filled with polystyrene foam beads.

Sold at: Bon-Ton, Meijer, Pamida, School Specialty, Wayfair and Walmart stores and online at, and before July 2013 for $30 to $100.

Remedy: Check the bean bag chairs for any zippers that can open. If zippers can open, stop using chair and contact the company for repair kit.
