The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. Consumers can submit reports of harm to CPSC’s searchable online product safety database at www.SaferProducts.gov. Hazard: The lock mechanism on the optional knife blade can inadvertently release the blade and cut users.

Description: Recalled are Leatherman Leap multipurpose tools designed for children ages 9 and up. The multi-tool has a green, blue or red plastic casing with two screws, one on each handle of the tool. It consists of combination needle-nose and regular pliers, wire cutters, wood saw, ruler, tweezers, soda bottle opener, optional 420HC (high carbon stainless steel) knife blade, scissors, Philips screwdriver, and small and medium slotted screwdrivers. The words Leatherman and Leap appear on one side of the multi-tool.

Sold at: Bass Pro Shop, Cabela’s and retailers nationwide, including knife and sporting goods online stores, from August through September 2014 for about $54.

Remedy: Do not install the optional knife blade or stop using the multi-tool with the installed optional knife. Contact Leatherman for a replacement multi-tool.
