Recalls and warnings

• Four children have drowned because their hair was caught in spa, hot tub or whirlpool drain covers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports.

To prevent injuries, the CPSC suggests that hot tub, whirlpool and spa buyers ask their dealers about drain covers that meet voluntary safety standards known as ASME/ANSI A112.19.8M - 1987. They also say that long hair should be kept away from the drain cover. Bathers with long hair should wear bathing caps or pin up their hair. Never use a hot tub or whirlpool without a drain cover.
