The increasing suicide rate in adolescents and young adults is of concern to both pediatricians and educator.1 The 1988 statement of the Committee on Adolescence has addressed the issue from the pediatrician's perspective.2 There is, however, a need for pediatricians and educators to collaborate in identifying and helping youngsters at risk for suicide whose symptoms of distress may become manifest in the school setting.
