The American Academy of Pediatrics has endorsed the importance of comprehensive periodic health assessments. The Academy has also endorsed the concept of the "medical home," which refers to the belief that all health care for children and adolescents should be managed by one personal health care provider or group of providers who assume responsibility for the ongoing care of the child. The "medical home" approach has been shown to improve compliance with health care recommendations and lower the cost of health care.1
