School physicians are a key participant in establishing a comprehensive school health program. They play a pivotal role in the leadership, direction, and function of the school health program.1 By definition, a school physician has had comprehensive training in pediatric medicine as well as specific experience and/or training in the principles of consultation, the discipline of school health, and the provision of services considered essential to a school health program.
