Stop talking about it and start announcing it. It is a “clinically meaningful” way for pediatricians to initiate HPV vaccine, according to a Pediatrics study.
New action guides on preventing six types of cancer through immunization were developed for pediatricians, small practices, large health systems, office staff and dental providers by the National HPV Vaccination Roundtable (http://bit.ly/HPVactionguide).
Here are a few other interventions:
- Issue standing orders for HPV vaccine.
- Streamline the process with provider prompts, electronic health records systems, reminder recalls and other automated reminders.
- Look at how many HPV vaccine doses are ordered compared to other adolescent vaccines. Ideally, practices use two HPV vaccine doses per each Tdap dose.
