Health Alerts: Bluetooth speakers, essential oils, microwaves, and more recalled :

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. Consumers can submit reports of harm to CPSC’s searchable online product safety database A searchable food and medical product recall database is available

Lidocaine pads

Units: About 153,000

Hazard: Children can open the package and access the lidocaine pads, which are poisonous if swallowed.

Description: Alocane Emergency Burn Pads were sold in 10-count and 15-count white and red boxes. The gel pads have 4% lidocaine as the active ingredient. Recalled lot numbers are 4179, 4180, 4235, 4645, 4646 and 4698. UPC number is 8-46241-02448-7.

Sold at: Walgreens, Walmart, Target, Kroger, Meijer, other pharmacies nationwide and online at,,, and from March 2018 through June 2019 for about $9.

Remedy: Keep the pads away from children. Contact Quest Products for a refund or replacement product that has child-resistant packaging.

Bluetooth speakers

Units: About 88,000

Hazard: The speaker’s battery can overcharge and burst.

Description: Recalled are Ecoxgear EcoBoulder Bluetooth speakers in black with one of five accent colors. Colors, model numbers and UPC codes are orange (GDI-EXBM900, UPC 819127010331), black (GDI-EXBM901, UPC 819127010348), yellow (GDI-EXBM904, UPC 819127011796), red (GDI-EXBM907, UPC 819127011802) and blue (GDI-EXBM913, UPC 819127011819).

Sold at: Costco stores nationwide from October 2016 to January 2017, Academy Sports, Cabela’s, Home Depot and Best Buy stores nationwide and online at from January through December 2018 for about $180.

Wintergreen essential oil

Units: About 62,700

Hazard: The product is not in child-resistant packaging and contains methyl salicylate, which is poisonous if swallowed.

Description: Recalled are Airome Wintergreen essential oil and Deep Soothe essential oil 100% Pure & Natural Therapeutic Grade essential oils.

Sold at: Home specialty stores and gift shops nationwide and on from December 2016 through July 2019 for $12 to $20.

Remedy: Keep the product away from children. Contact the company for a child-resistant cap.

Hooded sweatshirts

Units: About 6,600

Hazard: Children can strangle if the drawstring in the sweatshirt hood catches on playground equipment, bus doors or moving objects.

Description: Recalled are 15 styles of sweatshirts with drawstrings in sold in boys’ and girls’ sizes XS, S, M, L, XL. Sweatshirts include the “Hooey” brand or logo. They are made of polyester and cotton, and most have a front pocket.

Sold at: Boot Barn, Orscheln’s, Cavenders and other western wear apparel stores from September 2017 through October 2019 for about $45.

Remedy: Remove the drawstring to eliminate the hazard.

Microwave ovens

Units: About 700

Hazard: The microwave’s exterior can reach temperatures above 183 degrees Fahrenheit, and users can be burned.

Description: Kenmore Elite 1,000-watt countertop convection microwave ovens have a manufacturing date of April 27, 2017. The date is included as the first six digits of the serial number, “170427.” The model number is 204.77603610, and serial number range is 17042700001 to 17042700684.

Sold exclusively at: Sears and Sears Hometown and Outlet Stores from May 2017 through July 2018 for about $350.

Remedy: Stop using the microwave oven. Contact Sears for in-home repair.

Wood restoration product

Units: About 450

Hazard: The product does not include a hazard statement on the front warning that it contains oxalic acid and is poisonous if swallowed.

Description: Cutek Proclean Professional Wood Restoration was sold in a clear plastic gallon bottle with UPC number 098411800166.

Sold at: Lumber and supply stores from May 2014 through October 2019 for about $65.

Remedy: Keep the product away from children. Contact the company for a replacement label.

Essential oil

Units: About 270

Hazard: The product is not in a child-resistant package and contains methyl salicylate, which is poisonous if swallowed.

Description: Recalled are Resurrection Beauty Wintergreen 100% pure essential oils in amber glass 0.5-fluid-ounce dropper bottles with UPC code 616913145877.

Sold at:,, and from December 2015 to July 2019 for about $8.

Remedy: Keep away from children. Contact the company for a child-resistant cap.

Knitting needles

Units: About 270

Hazard: The shaft of the knitting needle can split or burst.

Description: Recalled are US 6 (4.0 mm diameter) FlipStix 6-inch and 8-inch long knitting needles. The knitting needles have aluminum shafts that are tapered at both ends. The long shaft holds the active (unsecured) stitches of the fabric, to prevent them from unravelling. The tapered ends are used to form new stitches. They were sold in blue, red and yellow combination packages. Five needles are in each pack.

Sold at: Yarn stores nationwide from November 2018 through August 2019 for about $20.

Remedy: Contact the store where purchased for a refund in the form of a store voucher.
