Health Alerts: Nursing pillows, cribs, scooters, sippy cups :

December 1, 2020

Do not let infants sleep on nursing pillows

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is reminding parents and caregivers not to let infants sleep on nursing pillows or pillow-like products because babies can suffocate. At least 28 infant deaths have been linked to these types of pillows.

The American Academy of Pediatrics reminds families that babies should sleep on their backs for naps and at night until their first birthday. Use a firm sleep surface, such as a crib, bassinet, portable crib or play yard that meets CPSC safety standards along with a tight-fitting, firm mattress and fitted sheet designed for that product. Nothing should be in the crib except the baby. Bed-sharing is not recommended, and babies should never sleep on a couch, sofa or armchair.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. Consumers can submit reports of harm to CPSC’s searchable online product safety database at www.SaferProducts.gov. A searchable food and medical product recall database is available atwww.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/default.htm.
