Health Alerts: Thermometers, bicycles and more recalled :

Recalls have been issued for the following products.

Digital thermometers

Hazard: The thermometers may display inaccurate temperatures.

Description: Recalled are Digital Temple Thermometers Model No. KD-2201 and lot numbers S/N: 3612 through S/N: 3715. The hand-held thermometer can be identified by the DTT logo on the face. The back of the thermometer has a label with KD-2201. (Model KD-2201L is not recalled.)

Sold at: Retail stores nationwide under the following packaging labels: Bestmed, Good Neighbor, Kroger, Medline, Meijer, Premier Value, Safeway, Life Brand, Target, Top Care, Best Choice (Value Merchandise) and Western Family from October 2012 to November 2015.

Remedy: Contact Bestmed to return the thermometer for a replacement.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. Fish bowls and kits

Units: About 230,000 fish bowls and kits

Hazard: The glass bowl can crack, shatter or break during normal handling.

Description: Recalled are Top Fin Betta Bowl Kits, which include a 0.6-gallon glass betta bowl, LED lights and plastic base in black, blue, pink, purple or silver. Also recalled are 1.75-gallon glass fish bowls shaped like a brandy snifter sold under the Great Choice or Top Fin brand names. SKU 5140161 and UPC code 737257187092 are printed on a white sticker on the bottom of the fish bowl.

Sold at: PetSmart stores and at www.petsmart.com. The Top Fin Betta Bowl Kits were sold from September 2013 through October 2015 for about $25. The Great Choice and Top Fin bowls were sold from March 2010 through September 2013 for about $20.

Remedy: Safely dispose of the glass bowl in the Top Fin Betta Bowl Kit and return the plastic base with power cord and adapter to any PetSmart store for a refund. Return the Great Choice and Top Fin bowls to any PetSmart store for a refund.

Kids’ tumblers

Units: About 130,000

Hazard: If a child chews on the straw, small pieces can break off and the child can swallow or choke on the small parts.

Description: Recalled are eight styles of Bueno by Contigo plastic drinking tumblers sold with a lid and straw. Some of the straws have a plastic mold in the shape of fangs, lips, a mustache or a zipper on the top. “Bueno” is printed on the lid, and “036201” is engraved on the bottom of the cup.

Sold at: Meijer and Target stores from May through September 2015 for about $6.

Electric pencil sharpeners

Units: About 44,000

Hazard: Users can be shocked.

Description: Recalled are Bostitch Quietsharp Glow Classroom and Super Pro Commercial electric pencil sharpeners. The sharpeners have a silver body, six pencil sharpener openings, a removable pencil shaving tray and “Bostitch” on the side. The recalled Quietsharp sharpener model number is EPS11HC with date codes 3215 through 4714. The Commercial sharpener is model number EPS14HC with date codes 1612 through 2715. The model number is on a sticker on the bottom of the sharpeners. The date code range is visible inside the unit when the pencil shavings tray is removed.

Sold at: Office Depot, Staples and other office supply stores and distributors and at Amazon.com from April 2012 through August 2015 for $70 to $155.

Remedy: Contact Amax for a replacement unit.

Light up ear plug jewelry

Units: About 8,400

Hazard: Battery acid can leak from ear plug jewelry’s battery and burn the wearer.

Description: Recalled ear plug jewelry is designed to be inserted into a pierced ear lobe and used to stretch the piercing in the ear lobe. The jewelry contains a coin-cell battery that lights up a decorative pattern. The ear plugs have a diamond logo on the front and come in black/white and black/red.

Sold at: Spencer Gifts stores nationwide from November 2014 through February 2015 for about $20.

Remedy: Contact SalesOne for a refund or replacement ear plug that does not contain a battery or light up.

Mountain bicycles

Units: 645

Hazard: The carbon seat post sold with the bicycle can crack and break, posing injury and fall hazards to the rider.

Description: This recall involves all model year 2015 Felt Double Double 30, NINEe 20 and Edict 1 mountain bicycles with carbon fiber seat posts. The Double Double 30 was sold in blue, the NINEe20 in a gray and orange color scheme, and the Edict 1 in a black and blue color scheme.

Sold at: Bicycle specialty stores nationwide from August 2014 through September 2015 for $2,000 to $5,500.

Remedy: Contact your local Felt Bicycles dealer for a free inspection and seat post replacement.

Bicycles

Units: About 530

Hazard: The bicycle fork can crack or break, posing a fall hazard.

Description: This recall involves all 2014 Kona Wo bicycles with a charcoal black frame and silver decals.

Sold at: Authorized Kona dealers nationwide from September 2013 through July 2014 for about $1,700.

Remedy: Contact Kona or an authorized Kona dealer for a free replacement and installation of the bicycle fork.

Roman shades

Units: About 240

Hazard: A child can strangle in the shades.

Description: Recalled are hobbled-style, motorized or manual, custom-made Roman shades made of fabric mounted on a metal frame. Each shade has two to six vertical mesh lift bands and a vertical hobble tape running the length of the shade. Lutron Electronics Inc. and the manufacture date appear on a white label on the shade tube at the top of the shade, which can be located when the shade is fully extended.

Sold at: 54 Electric (formerly Pfeiffer Electric), Bekins, Burgin Drapery Workroom, Don Fillers & Associates (DFA), Rosenburg Power Window Treatments and other residential window shading dealers from December 2009 through July 2015 for $675 to $8,000.

Remedy: Contact Lutron Electronics for a refund or a free replacement shade.
