Dr. GreenbergRobert E. Greenberg, M.D., FAAP, of Corrales, N.M., died Dec. 16 at age 86.
A leader in child health research, health and rights, he was past chair of the AAP Committee on Pediatric Research and ran unsuccessfully against Robert Hannemann, M.D., FAAP, for 1996-’97 AAP president. In 2003, he received the AAP Section on Senior Members Advocacy Award.
Dr. Greenberg helped develop the AAP and University of Rochester-supported Center for Child Health Research, serving as chair and member of its board of directors from 1999-2003. He was a member of the AAP Pediatric Research in Office Settings Steering Committee, and served as president of the Society for Pediatric Research and the Western Society for Pediatric Research.
In New Mexico, he co-founded and was a chair of the state’s Coalition for Children, Youth and Families community-based advocacy group program. He also was vice president and president of the New Mexico Pediatric Society.
Dr. Greenberg received his medical degree from University of California, San Francisco in 1953, then completed a pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and post-doctoral fellowships in endocrinology/physiology at Upstate Medical Center, State University of New York and the Karolinska Instituet in Stockholm, Sweden.
After serving as director of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Stanford University, he became the first professor and chair of the Charles Drew/Martin Luther King Medical Center in Los Angeles in 1960. He moved to University of New Mexico to become chair of pediatrics (1976), was named professor of pediatrics and director of pediatric endocrinology (1986) and retired 10 years later.
Dr. Greenberg is survived by his wife, Margaret Greenberg, R.N., Ph.D., four children and six grandchildren.

Stuart D. Marsh, M.D., FAAP, of Miami, died Nov. 14 at age 87.
Roslyn Skyer, M.D., FAAP, of West Palm Beach, Fla., died Dec. 5 at age 97.
H. Wallace Vandever M.D., FAAP, of Oklahoma City, died Nov. 19 at age 90.
Rekha P. Yagnik, M.D., FAAP, of Media, Pa., died Dec. 26 at age 71.
