Chitra Dinakar, M.D., FAAP, of Stanford, Calif., died March 27. She was 54.
An expert in food allergies; asthma and health care disparities; delivery and outcomes, she received the 2019 Jerome Glaser Distinguished Service Award from the AAP Section on Allergy and Immunology.
Dr. Dinakar was a former member of the section’s executive committee, leading the development of the 2017 AAP clinical report Clinical Tools to Assess Asthma Control in Children. She also was past chair of the section’s Visiting Professor Program, which was dedicated to helping pediatric training programs provide quality allergy, asthma and immunology education.
She was a clinical professor of medicine and a member of the Maternal and Child Health Research Institute at Stanford University and clinical chief of allergy, asthma and immunodeficiency at Stanford Health Care.
Dr. Dinakar completed her M.D. at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in India, residency at MetroHealth Medical Center and allergy and immunology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic.
She is survived by her husband and two sons.
