She is associate professor of pediatrics, vice chair of educational affairs and director of the Center for Research, Innovation and Scholarship in Medical Education in the pediatrics department at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital. Dr. Turner has served as a local and national mentor on education projects. She also is a member of the Council on Community Pediatrics and Section on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.

He is Distinguished Research Professor of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Cherry, an authority on pertussis, is a member of the Section on Senior Members.

Award for Outstanding Service to Maltreated Children

Michèle A. Evans, M.D., M.H.S., FAAP

She is Northern California regional medical director of the Kaiser Permanente Child Abuse Services and Prevention program in Oakland. Dr. Evans also chairs the Sacramento County Child Death Review Team.

 

Award for Pediatric Innovation

T. Allen Merritt, M.D., M.H.A., FAAP

He is professor of pediatrics in the School of Medicine at Loma Linda University. Dr. Merritt has overseen clinical trials using pulmonary surfactants and less invasive methods of surfactant administration to newborns with respiratory distress. His research also has focused on the adverse effects of maternal tobacco use on breastfeeding. He is a member of the Section on Tobacco Control.

F. Estelle R. Simons, M.D., FRCPC, FACAAI, FAAAAI, FCAHS, FRSC, FAAP

She is professor emerita at the University of Manitoba in Canada. For over four decades, Dr. Simons led a team that conducted investigations to establish the scientific basis of medications used in the treatment of allergic diseases. They performed pediatric studies of medications now widely used for treatment of asthma, allergic rhinitis and urticaria and conducted studies of epinephrine and novel epinephrine delivery systems for anaphylaxis treatment.

William G. Adams, M.D., FAAP

He is professor of pediatrics and director of child health informatics at Boston University School of Medicine/Boston Medical Center. Dr. Adams also directs the Clinical Informatics Program at Boston University Clinical & Translational Science Institute.

Elizabeth B. Lange, M.D., FAAP

She practices at Waterman Pediatrics/Coastal Medical in East Providence, R.I. Dr. Lange, who serves on the board of the AAP Rhode Island Chapter, is co-director of PCMH-Kids, the pediatric arm of a statewide all-payer medical home initiative. She is a member of the AAP Sections on Administration and Practice Management, LGBT Health and Wellness, Obesity and Tobacco Control.

Dr. FlanaganPatricia Flanagan, M.D., FAAP

She is chief of clinical affairs and director of the Teens With Tots clinic at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Dr. Flanagan is professor and vice chair of pediatrics at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, where she also directs the Division of Adolescent Medicine. She is vice chair of AAP District I and serves on the board of the AAP Rhode Island Chapter as well as PCMH-Kids.

 

C. Anderson Aldrich Award

She is professor of pediatrics (clinical) at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. High is a member and former chair of the Council on Early Childhood. She also is a member of the Council on Foster Care, Adoption and Kinship Care.

Jill Stoller, M.D., FAAP

She is a partner at Chestnut Ridge Pediatric Associates in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., and president and CEO of BCD Health Partners, LLC, a group practice “without walls” that includes Chestnut Ridge and six other pediatric groups. Dr. Stoller, a former chair of the Section on Administration and Practice Management Executive Committee, also is a member of the Section on Advances in Therapeutics and Technology.

Clifford G. Grulee Award

She is professor of pediatrics, director of the Division of Child and Family Health and director of the Community for Children program at University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. Dr. Griffin is a member of the AAP Council on Community Pediatrics and Section on International Child Health.

 

Dale Richmond/Justin Coleman Award

William Lord Coleman, M.D., FAAP (1943-2017)

He was professor of pediatrics at the Center for Development and Learning, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Coleman was past chair of the Committee on Psychosocial Aspects of Child and Family Health and the Section on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. He advocated to make the family systems approach more understandable and more easily implemented in pediatric care. Dr. Coleman also served on the AAP News Editorial Advisory Board.

He is medical director of general pediatrics and clinical professor of pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Greenville Health System and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Greenville. Dr. Saul is vice president of the AAP South Carolina Chapter. He is editor of the AAP book Medical Genetics in Pediatric Practice.

Distinguished Career Award

He is pediatrician-in-chief at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and professor of pediatric critical care at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Fortenberry is a member of the Section on Advances in Therapeutics and Technology.

Dr. Perrin, who served on the first executive committee of the Section on LGBT Health and Wellness, has had a long-term commitment to teaching, research and advocacy in this area. She is a member of the Section on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and the provisional Section on Minority Health, Equity and Inclusion.

Judge Cindy S. Lederman, J.D.

She is a U.S. circuit judge (children’s court) of the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida in Miami. Lederman has served in the Miami-Dade Juvenile Court since 1994, including 10 years as presiding judge. She has helped to bring the science of early childhood development to the courtroom for families involved with child welfare, advocating for vulnerable children and their families. Lederman served as the liaison from the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges to the AAP Task Force on Foster Care.
