The Academy wants pediatricians to have the latest infectious diseases guidance at their fingertips. When the 2018 Red Book is released in June, eligible AAP members will get one complimentary print book with their free Red Book Online access.

Medical student members, international members and corresponding Fellows will receive free online-only access and can buy print copies at a discounted rate.

Every chapter of the Red Book has been modified since the 2015 edition. Three chapters were added on chikungunya, coagulase-negative staphylococcal infections and Zika.

The book is divided into four sections that address active and passive immunization, recommendations for care of children in special clinical circumstances, summaries of infectious diseases, and antimicrobial agents and related therapy.

Standardized approaches to disease prevention through immunizations, antimicrobial prophylaxis and infection-control practices have been updated. Current references and vaccine and drug recommendations are included.

Authored by the AAP Committee on Infectious Diseases, the Red Book is in its 31st edition. Look to the May issue of AAP News for an overview of the changes from Red Book Editor David W. Kimberlin, M.D., FAAP.
