Pause to review U.S. prematurity rates :

November 9, 2015

The premature birth rate in the U.S. has seen sustained improvement, but at 9.6%, it remains one of the highest rates of any industrialized country. November marks a month-long AAP-supported campaign to combat premature births.

The March of Dimes, which monitors and pushes to lower the premature birth rate, will release report cards on Nov. 5. Grades will reflect data measuring how individual states fare with regard to lowering the number of premature births.

World Prematurity Day will be observed on Nov. 17. Pediatricians are invited to share information about premature birth prevention and awareness via social media. Join @AmerAcadPeds and @AAPNews on Twitter for messages to retweet.
