With technology advancing at a dizzying pace, it can be difficult to keep track of advances and how they might be used to improve patient care.
Get insights from experts during the Pediatrics for the 21st Century (Peds 21) program from 1:30-5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, in the Orange County Convention Center, Chapin Theater.
Titled “Leveraging New Technologies to Transform Child Health,” Peds 21 kicks off the national conference. No tickets are required.
Here are program highlights:
1:50-2:10 p.m.
Kristopher Jones, J.D., M.S., an entrepreneur, investor and best-selling author with a background in technology, will share his perspective as the father of three young children. He will offer suggestions on how pediatricians can integrate technology into their practices to improve families’ experiences.
2:10-2:30 p.m.
Kristin Sohl M.D., FAAP, associate professor of clinical child health at the University of Missouri, Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders, will discuss how to use telemedicine to deliver care to rural or urban communities.
2:30-2:50 p.m.
Nephi Walton, M.D., FAAP, a clinical geneticist and clinical informaticist at Geisinger Health System, will review the role of genetics as a roadmap to future health. Using technology, a physician may be able to combine a patient’s clinical data with genomics to diagnose complex disorders and guide patient care.
3:30-3:50 p.m.
Kimberly Newell Green, M.D., FAAP, a pediatrician, innovator and educator at University of California San Francisco, Permanente Medical Group, will examine how wearables that generate data on a patient’s vitals may be used to enhance patient care.
3:50-4:15 p.m.
Lisa Costello, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP, assistant professor in the departments of internal medicine and pediatrics at West Virginia University, will discuss the use of social media for advocacy in health care and how medical students are learning to use technology through simulation and education.
The program also will include a poster session featuring original research abstracts from 2:55-3:25 p.m.
