Purified water for infants is being recalled due to potential mold contamination, according to an alert from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The Kroger Company has recalled gallons of Comforts for Baby purified water with fluoride with sell-by dates of April 26, 2018 to Oct. 10, 2018 after finding Talaromyces penicillium.

The products were distributed to Kroger stores, including Food 4 Less, Jay C, Jay C Food Plus, Kroger, Kroger Marketplace, Owen’s, Payless Super Market, and Ruler stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, according to the FDA.

Contact with mold may induce allergic reactions or asthma attacks in some people. Infants with compromised immune systems can experience serious health consequences. The FDA recommends parents call their doctor if they believe their infant is affected.

Customers can return the recalled water to the store for a refund. Those with questions about food safety can call the FDA at 888-723-3366 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Eastern Monday through Friday, or consult its website: http://www.fda.gov
