Baby wash recalled due to possible health risks

Hazard: The baby wash might contain the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The bacteria can cause infections, especially in people with weak immune systems.

Description: Recalled are all Saje Natural Wellness Splish Splash gentle baby wash 8.5 fluid ounce bottles (SKU number 700552; lot number 814020) and all 1.7 fluid ounce bottles found in the Wee and Well Gentle Baby care kit (SKU number 700561; lot number 814020).

Sold at: Saje stores in California, New Jersey and New York, and online.

Remedy: Return the product to a Saje store for a refund.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of the following products. Consumers should stop using recalled products unless otherwise instructed. Consumers can submit reports of harm to CPSC’s searchable online product safety database atwww.SaferProducts.gov. A searchable food and medical product recall database is available atwww.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/default.htm.

Cedar chests

Units: 12 million cedar chests were recalled to repair locks in 1996. Many still need to be repaired.

Hazard: The chest’s lid automatically locks when the lid is closed. Fourteen children have suffocated after being locked inside the cedar chests.

Description:The “Lane” and “Virginia Maid” brand cedar chests were manufactured between 1912 and 1987. “Lane” or “Virginia Maid” is located inside the cedar chest.

Sold at: These chests often are handed down through families or purchased second-hand.

Remedy: Remove the latch to eliminate the hazard. Contact United Furniture Industries Inc. for a free replacement latch and lock.

Prescriptions in blister packaging 

Units: About 470,000

Hazard: The prescription packaging is not child resistant. Children can open the medication, eat it and be poisoned.

Description: Blister packages of prescription drugs from Novartis and Sandoz contain three to 10 tablets per blister card. Medications packaged in a variety of dosages and pill counts are involved. They include: Zofran ODT, Entresto (sacubitril/valsartan), azithromycin tablets, donepezil ODT tablets, haloperidol tablets, imipramine HCl tablets, isosorbide dinitrate tablets, naratriptan tablets, ondansetron tablets, ondansetron ODT, perphenazine tablets and risperidone ODT.

Sold at: Clinics and pharmacies as a prescribed medicine from September 2016 to June 2018.

Remedy: Keep the blister cards away from children. Contact Novartis or Sandoz for instructions. Medication still can be used as directed if it is securely stored away from children.

Children’s pajamas

Units: About 64,000

Hazard: They do not meet federal flammability rules for children’s sleepwear.

Description: Two styles of children’s sleepwear garments are recalled. The 100% polyester fleece pajama pant has the brand name “Sweet N Sassy” on the waist label and hang tag. The 95% polyester and 5% spandex onesie with long-sleeves, a hood and front zipper has the brand name “Delia’s Girl” at the neck label and hang tag. They were sold in children’s sizes 4-6x and 7-16 in a variety of colors and prints.

Sold at: America’s Kids, Boscov’s, Kids for Less and other stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, CookiesKids.com, CrazyforBargains.com, Sophiasstyle.com and other websites from September 2017 to April 2018 for $8 to $13.

Remedy: Stop using the sleepwear. Contact the company for a refund.

Shorts

Units: About 5,400

Hazard: The patches on the shorts can detach, and young children can choke on them.

Description: The Okie Dokie Denim Patches Shortie shorts have a rainbow and a slice of watermelon patch on each front pocket with tan stitching along the seams. They were sold in toddler sizes 2T through 5T. Item number 324-8191 and date code 12/17 are printed on a tag inside the back seam.  

Sold exclusively at: JCPenney stores and www.jcpenney.com from February to June for about $22.

Remedy: Contact JCPenney to return the shorts for a gift card.

Snowboard boots

Units: About 4,800

Hazard: The boots can release from the binding unexpectedly, and the user can fall.

Description: Recalled are Step On snowboard boots from the winter 2017-’19 seasons. The boots were sold in a variety of colors.

Sold at: Burton and other specialty stores and online at Burton.com and other websites from November 2016 through December 2017 for $300 to $400.

Remedy: Contact Burton for a new heel cleat.

Fireworks

Editor’s note: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends prohibiting public sale of all fireworks. Families should attend community fireworks displays run by professionals rather than using fireworks at home.

Units: About 3,800

Hazard: The recalled fireworks are overloaded with pyrotechnics intended to produce noise. This can cause a bigger explosion, burns and hazards to bystanders.

Description: Recalled are ball bullet rocket fireworks packed in bags of four with model number LB6103 and M-150 cracker fireworks packed in boxes of 36 with model number LA150B.

Sold at: Fremont Fireworks stores in Indiana, Miller Fireworks and J&W Fireworks stores in Ohio, and Red Falcon Fireworks and Rocky’s Fireworks stores in Michigan from May 2017 through June 2018 for $4 to $13.

Remedy: Stop using the fireworks and return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
