Suspending agents recalled due to yeast contamination :

Suspending agents used in compounding some liquid medicines are being recalled due to microbial contamination, according to an alert from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Yeast has been found in SyrSpend SF and SyrSpend SF grape (Fagron), which could cause infection in an immunocompromised patient or a child with a developing immune system, the FDA said. No adverse events have been reported.

The FDA recommends compounding pharmacies discontinue use of the contaminated products, quarantine them and return them to Fagron.
