Poison Control Centers have created an online tool and free app that guides those faced with a poison emergency. A series of simple questions helps determine the toxicity of a swallowed substance and whether a trip to the emergency department is necessary.
A recommendation is provided based on age, substance swallowed, amount taken, weight and amount of time since the exposure. The app also allows users to scan the product’s barcode to quickly find the product instead of manually searching for the product name.
For more information on the online interactive tool and app, visit http://www.poison.org/.
The app is available for Apple devices at http://apple.co/1WXvl2F and Android devices at http://bit.ly/1WXvsey.
If you would like to share a first-hand experience using technology, such as software, program, app, widget, etc., to improve patient care or practice management, email submissions of 250 words or less to Cathleen Guch at [email protected].
