AAP tracking COVID-19 vaccination status of adolescents

September 1, 2021

The AAP provides a weekly analysis of data on the COVID-19 vaccination status of children ages 12 through 17 years from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), http://bit.ly/COVID19vaccinationreport.

Since April 7, the AAP has reported on cumulative trends and weekly changes based on CDC updates to the data series.

Information is broken down in several ways:

  • by age group (12- to 15-year-olds and 16- to 17-year-olds),
  • cumulative number of vaccine recipients under age 18 by week (one or more doses, fully vaccinated) and
  • weekly increase in vaccine recipients under age 18 by week (one or more doses, fully vaccinated).

According to 2020 census information, children ages 12-17 years make up 7.6% of the population. Based on this information, the AAP report breaks down the proportion of vaccine recipients under age 18 by state of residence in map and bar chart formats (one or more doses, fully vaccinated). As of Aug. 4, Vermont and Massachusetts had the largest proportion of children fully vaccinated.
