Medical conditions, risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes

July 1, 2021

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has developed resources to help health care providers identify which underlying medical conditions put patients at increased risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19. Severe outcomes are defined as hospitalization, admission to the intensive care unit, intubation or mechanical ventilation and/or death.

The CDC has categorized underlying medical conditions into four tiers based on level of evidence (see table). The list is updated when new evidence emerges. Visit https://bit.ly/3fpUULu.
