Editor’s note: The 2023 AAP National Conference & Exhibition will take place from Oct. 20-24 in Washington, D.C. For coverage, visit https://bit.ly/AAPNationalConference2023 and follow @AAPNews on Facebook and at twitter.com/AAPNews.

Listeners of the Pediatrics On Call podcast who are attending the AAP National Conference & Exhibition this month will be treated to a live broadcast of the show.

The Pediatrics On Call Podcast-Unedited! will take place from 12:30-1:30 p.m. EDT Sunday, Oct. 22 in room 147 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Co-hosts David L. Hill, M.D., FAAP, and Joanna Parga-Belinkie, M.D., FAAP, will be joined by Pediatrics Editor-in-Chief Lewis R. First, M.D., M.S., FAAP, Deputy Editor Alex R. Kemper, M.D., M.P.H., M.S., FAAP, and Associate Editor of Digital Media Rachel Y. Moon, M.D., FAAP.

“There’s nothing like the electricity of a (live recording),” Dr. Hill said. “If you like the recorded version, this is just 10 times better in terms of entertainment.”

The group will discuss current topics in pediatric research and look back at 75 years of the peer-reviewed journal.

“Every month, we have the editors of Pediatrics on to talk about high-impact articles, and the (National Conference) is a chance for us to go over their favorites of the year. It’s fun, engaging and informative,” Dr. Parga-Belinkie said.

“I don’t know what they’re going to pick, so there may be some surprises in there, but they’re always influential and always entertaining,” Dr. Hill added.

The group recorded a similar broadcast at last year’s National Conference in Anaheim, Calif.

“Last year, we got on stage with the three of them and performed the high-wire act of attempting to do a podcast live,” Dr. Hill said. “We just had a magnificent time doing it, and we couldn’t stop laughing. I hope the audience had as much fun as we did.”

In addition to the live broadcasts, Dr. Parga-Belinkie and Dr. Hill will spend time at the AAP publications booth in the Exhibit Hall to meet listeners of the show.

“We’ll be shaking hands, hearing suggestions and advice, and talking about favorite episodes,” Dr. Hill said.

While the stakes are high, the duo is looking forward to conversing with three of their favorite guests and meeting with listeners from around the country.

“Attendees can expect to learn and be engaged,” Dr. Parga-Belinkie said. “We want to hear from our listeners! We have fun when we record. The topics are serious, but pediatrics is a job with so much joy, and we try to bring that out.”
