June 11, 2024

Nivedita Mohanty, M.D., M.S., FAAP, has been named AAP senior vice president of child health finance and quality to provide strategic guidance for population health initiatives to advance pediatric practice in alignment with AAP leadership and equity priorities.

As part of the senior leadership team, she will lead initiatives related to pediatric health care financing, physician payment, practice transformation, quality improvement and health information technology. She begins her work in August.

“We are fortunate to welcome Dr. Mohanty to our leadership team to help us advance critical initiatives in pediatric health care quality and financing, including the AAP CHILD Health Registry,” said CEO/Executive Vice President Mark Del Monte, J.D. “This work carries significant goals in tracking and improving the trajectory of children’s health and well-being, from birth into adulthood. Dr. Mohanty brings significant experience in clinical care, health care quality and patient safety, health information technology and research that will be critical to the Academy’s success in these initiatives.”

Dr. Mohanty comes to the AAP from AllianceChicago, a support organization to a national network of federally qualified health centers across 19 states. As chief research and innovation officer and most recently as chief health impact officer, she led quality, innovation and research initiatives with a focus on improving outcomes for patients and the workforce. These initiatives leverage private and public partnerships to advance evidence-based care, health equity and chronic disease prevention, and have been supported by the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Health Resources and Service Administration (HRSA), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and private foundations.

“It is such an honor to serve the mission of the AAP,” Dr. Mohanty said. “Both as a practicing pediatrician and in my work across health systems, I constantly adjust my focus to serve the needs of individual patients and families and contribute to measurable improvements across the broader systems that care for them. With the many current issues impacting children, families and the workforce, I am very excited to contribute to the mission of an organization with such dedication to their well-being and high-quality care.”

Dr. Mohanty is a clinical associate professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and has clinical responsibilities at Erie Family Health Centers and Ann and Robert Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. She is a volunteer pediatrician for global organizations, serving families in 11 countries alongside international medical teams.

Dr. Mohanty received a B.A. in biology and world religions from Wesleyan College and her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine, both in Macon, Ga. She completed her residency in pediatrics at the University of Chicago and received an M.S. in health care quality and patient safety from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. She was an American Association for the Advancement of Science fellow in Washington, D.C., with a focus on advancing national health priorities.

Dr. Mohanty’s work has received honors from Crain’s Chicago Business, the National Association of Community Health Centers and HRSA.

“In this role, Dr. Mohanty will provide strategic guidance for work that will materially improve the health and well-being of thousands of infants, children and adolescents,” said AAP Chief Medical Officer Anne R. Edwards, M.D., FAAP. “Using data and benchmarks, our goals are to substantially accelerate advances in child health and assist pediatricians in their ability to deliver improved care. Dr. Mohanty’s background as a practicing pediatrician with experience in large quality improvement initiatives brings valuable insight and skills to this work.”
