16,500 cans of infant formula recalled due to excessive vitamin D levels

August 14, 2024

Perrigo Company is recalling 16,500 cans of store brand Infant Premium formula milk-based powder with iron because it contains elevated levels of vitamin D. No reports of adverse effects have been attributed to the product.

The recalled formula was shipped to H-E-B Grocery Co. in Texas and CVS stores in California, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Routine product testing revealed the elevated vitamin D levels, according to the recall.

For most infants, short-term consumption of the recalled formula is unlikely to cause adverse health effects, according to the FDA. For some physiologically vulnerable infants (e.g., those with impaired renal function), consumption of the formula could result in health complications.
