10 ways to engage before Election Day

October 1, 2024
Topics:

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5. Here are 10 actions you can take to prepare to vote and encourage others to vote.

  1. Check your voter registration. Make sure you know your voter registration status and your polling place.
  2. Make a plan to cast your ballot. Do you plan to vote early? If not, what time will you head to the booth on Election Day? Can you bring others with you?
  3. Check out the nonpartisan guide developed by the AAP in partnership with Vot-ER to help you discuss the importance of voting with patients and families. (Note: Check your institution’s policies on conversations with patients about voting.)
  4. Download the AAP virtual background to share the Vote Kids message on your video calls.
  5. Watch and share the new Vote Kids video to encourage others to head to the ballot box on behalf of kids.
  6. Peruse the AAP Advocacy Guide for resources on writing to local media, contacting your elected officials and more (log-in required).
  7. See recommended questions to raise the issue of child health with candidates.
  8. Share the AAP Vote Kids graphics on social media, along with your own message about the importance of voting with child health in mind.
  9. Read the letter from AAP President Benjamin D. Hoffman, M.D., FAAP, where he discusses the importance of voting and getting to know your elected officials.
  10. Share these resources with fellow pediatricians and other child health leaders. You are trusted voices in your community, and it is more important than ever to mobilize your neighbors to Vote Kids!
