National advisory board on CYSHCN strategic efforts
The AAP received a two-year $339,428 award from the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health to support the creation of a multidisciplinary national advisory board to help guide and coordinate efforts to support children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) and their families.
The advisory board will be co-led by a family leader, Allysa Ware, Ph.D., M.S.W., executive director of Family Voices, and pediatrician Edward Schor, M.D., FAAP, and will include youths with lived expertise, families/caregivers of CYSHCN, pediatricians, health care practitioners, payers, researchers, health policy experts and representatives from federal agencies, among other experts.
“This new initiative provides the American Academy of Pediatrics and its partners the exciting opportunity to better coordinate efforts among systems and supports that CYSHCN and their families rely on,” said Debra Waldron, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP, AAP senior vice president for healthy and resilient children, youth and families.
