The AAP expanded its Parental Benefit Program to provide 12 weeks of full paid leave following the birth of an employee’s child or the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption or foster care.

The revision, which took effect Jan. 1, offers staff 100% of their base salary for 12 weeks. Previously, the AAP provided six weeks of pay at 100% of an employee’s base salary followed by six weeks of pay at 50%.

An AAP policy statement published in October 2024 called for national paid family medical leave of at least 12 weeks and longer if a child has medical complexity.

“We are proud to follow AAP policy for our own staff,” said CEO/Executive Vice President Mark Del Monte, J.D.

The AAP has more than 500 full-time employees in Itasca, Ill., and Washington, D.C.
