The AAP National Nominating Committee has selected Terri D. McFadden, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP, of Atlanta, and Marsha D. Spitzer, M.D., FAAP, of San Diego, as candidates for president-elect.  

The winner will serve as AAP president in 2027, succeeding Andrew D. Racine, M.D., Ph.D., FAAP, who will serve as president in 2026.  

AAP members can cast their ballots from Sept. 3-17.  

Dr. Spitzer is chief of pediatrics for clinical support at Family Health Centers of San Diego. She is former chairperson of the AAP Chapter Forum Management Committee, which oversees the resolution process at the annual Leadership Conference, and a former president of California Chapter 3 (2017-’19). 

Dr. Spitzer earned her medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington, D.C.  

Dr. McFadden is a professor of pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta and a general pediatrician at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She also serves as director of clinical initiatives at PARTNERS for Equity in Child and Adolescent Health. She is a member of the AAP Council on Injury, Violence and Poison Prevention Executive Committee and the Council on Early Childhood. 

Dr. McFadden earned her medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore and received her master of public health degree from Emory Rollins School of Public Health in Atlanta.
