An updated footnote on maternal depression is the sole change to the Bright Futures/AAP Recommendations for Preventive Pediatric Health Care, also known as the Periodicity Schedule.
Footnote 16 now says that screening for maternal depression should occur per the 2019 policy statement Incorporating Recognition and Management of Perinatal Depression Into Pediatric Practice(http://bit.ly/31hA0Wi).
The 2020 Periodicity Schedule from the Committee on Practice and Ambulatory Medicine and the Bright Futures Periodicity Schedule Workgroup is published in the March issue of Pediatrics and at https://www.aap.org/en-us/Documents/periodicity_schedule.pdf.
The schedule recommends screenings and assessments at each well-child visit from infancy through adolescence. Additional visits may be necessary if circumstances suggest variations from normal. For example, developmental, psychosocial and chronic disease issues could require counseling and treatment visits separate from preventive care visits.
