The AAP is launching a weekly podcast by pediatricians for pediatricians that will make your 30-minute commute fly by.

Pediatrics On Call, hosted by David L. Hill, M.D., FAAP, and Joanna Parga-Belinkie, M.D., FAAP, will explore news, innovations and science and will feature in-depth discussions with experts.

“Podcasting offers an intimacy you can’t get in other forms of media,” Dr. Parga-Belinkie said. “David and I have the opportunity to connect on a deep level with our guests, both telling their stories about their work and learning at the same time.”

The podcast will dive into hot topics such as bedsharing, vaccine hesitancy, racism and injury prevention. In the first episode, the hosts discuss drowning prevention with Benjamin D. Hoffman, M.D., FAAP, chair of the AAP Council on Injury, Violence and Poison Prevention.

During their discussions, Drs. Hill and Parga-Belinke will draw on their expertise and training, takeaways from conversations with patients and families, and personal experiences as parents.

Both hosts are well-versed in media and communications. Dr. Hill is former chair of the AAP Council on Communications and Media Executive Committee. Dr. Parga-Belinke, a neonatologist, co-hosted a podcast for new parents.

For Dr. Hill, the program is an opportunity to reach busy pediatricians who are hungry for a deeper dive into some of the most pressing topics within the AAP. Although the podcast focuses on a pediatrician audience, he encourages pediatricians to spread the word to families.

“Anyone who is interested in child health is going to want to listen,” Dr. Hill said. “Pediatricians, of course, because we’ll be talking to the most innovative people in the business. But other health care providers, parents, anyone who likes to geek out about child health will find something to love here.”

Download the AAP’s flagship podcast starting July 21 on iTunes, Spotify and wherever podcasts are found. For behind-the-scenes interviews with the hosts and other information, visit www.aap.org/podcast. Pediatrics On Call is supported by Johnson & Johnson, the global health care company.
