AAP takes awards for design, writing excellence

AAP staff were lauded for producing top-quality, award-winning content.

AAP Grand Rounds was honored with a Silver Award for improved design and content in the Excel Awards competition held by Association Media & Publishing. The award recognized the creative design work of Michael Hayes, AAP production manager, and the AAP editorial team of Joe Puskarz, Kate Larson and Mark Plemmons. Over 800 entries competed for editorial, design, advertising, marketing and publishing awards in the 2018 competition.

News Content Editor Melissa Jenco received the APEX Award for Excellence in Writing in the series category for extensive coverage of the Zika outbreak for AAP News. Since January 2016, she has written 33 articles for AAP News and online. In addition to following the Zika outbreak status and locations affected, Jenco reported on what pediatricians should know about evidence, and recommended care and resources to share with affected families. The APEX Awards contest received more than 1,400 entries from publishers across the nation. Access the comprehensive Zika collection for free at
