App assists with identifying potential cases of abuse :

June 29, 2016

The Child Protector app can assist health care professionals in evaluating a child who may have been physically abused.

Developed by the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, the app provides tools to assist with injury history-taking. Based on the type of injury selected (bruises, burns, head injuries, fractures, abdominal injuries), the app guides the user through forensic decision-making tools to determine the likelihood of abuse. It also provides recommendations for additional medical testing.

In addition, more than 60 animations and narration depict the mechanisms of different types of injuries in children.

The app is free for Apple devices at http://apple.co/1t6dGwB and Android devices at http://bit.ly/25BrhJV.

If you would like to share a first-hand experience using technology, such as software, program, app, widget, etc., to improve patient care or practice management, email submissions of 250 words or less to Cathleen Guch at [email protected].
