With the upcoming release of the new edition of the Red Book, the Academy is reminding members that photocopied fake versions still are being offered by online sellers but are fraudulent and substandard.
The counterfeit copies are missing pages, have misspelled words and entire sections easily fall out of cheaply made editions. These fake editions could show inaccurate medication doses and contain errors in other critical medical information.
Last year, the Academy issued a warning about the fraudulent Red Book copies, but the problem persists. Medical reference books with many editions and pages printed in black and white are especially vulnerable to piracy, according to publishing experts.
