Census ending on Sept. 30 :

September 1, 2020
Topics:

Citing the safety and health of the public and its workforce, the U.S. Census Bureau has announced it is ending field data collection by Sept. 30. Self-response options also are closing on Sept. 30. This is to allow time for data processing, according to a U.S. Census Bureau press release.

Census data inform decisions about federal funding for programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, Medicaid and Head Start.

The Census Bureau had received responses from 63% of U.S. households as of the beginning of August. Pediatricians are encouraged to remind families who have not completed the census survey to do so as soon as possible at https://2020census.gov/.
