Several types of Nature Made vitamins are being recalled due to possible contamination with Salmonella or Staphylococcus aureus, according to federal health authorities.

The recall by manufacturer Pharmavite LLC stems from improper testing for the bacteria before the vitamins hit the shelves at major retailers, according to a warning from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Salmonella can cause diarrhea, nausea, abdominal cramps, fever and vomiting, according to the warning. Infections can be series and even fatal in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Staphylococcus aureus can lead to food poisoning and produce similar symptomsSeverity depends on the amount ingested and the person’s health.

The four types of Nature Made vitamins recalled due to possible contamination are

  • Adult Gummies Multi,
  • Adult Gummies Multi + Omega-3,
  • Adult Gummies Multi for Her plus Omega-3s, and
