Several requests for new fiscal year 2017 International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) codes were based on the need to better identify and track specific congenital conditions and malformations. Codes added for implementation on October 1, 2016, are as follows:

ICD-10-CM 2017 expands subcategories Q25.2 (atresia of aorta) and Q25.4 (other congenital malformations of the aorta) to include 5-character codes specifying greater clinical detail.

Subcategory Q52.1 (doubling of the vagina) has been expanded to create codes differentiating a nonobstructing vaginal septum from an obstructing vaginal septum and to add laterality to these codes. Codes also specify a microperforate obstructing septum.

Subcategory Q66.2 has been expanded to differentiate between congenital metatarsus varus of the first metatarsal bone and that of all metatarsal bones.
