There are a significant number of new codes for fractures in the update to International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) that will be implemented on October 1, 2016. New codes identify fracture of bones of the foot that are not otherwise specified in the code set (eg, sesamoid bones). Physeal fractures, including each type of Salter-Harris fracture of bones of the ankle and foot, have been added. Other new codes add laterality to codes for fractures of the skull and facial bones.
Subcategory S92.8 has been added for reporting other fractures of the foot, including those of the sesamoid bones.
