Questions often arise about reporting services that are in addition to daily newborn evaluation and management (E/M) services. In this article, we will look at some of the common combinations of services. Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) provides many instructions for reporting of multiple services on the same date by the same physician or physicians of the same specialty and group practice. In addition, payer contracts may require adherence to National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) policies and edits, and individual payers may also adopt other claim edits and policies. Coding and billing staff should always be aware of contractual obligations and varying payer policies.
