Codes 0188T and 0189T have been deleted from Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) in 2019. Pediatric physicians providing critical care via telemedicine will change the way these services are reported in 2019.

Do not report codes 0188T and 0189T for services on and after January 1, 2019. CPT instructs to report code 99499 (unlisted evaluation and management [E/M] service) for remote real-time interactive video-conferenced critical care, E/M of the critically ill or critically injured patient. However, it is advisable to check with payers for written guidance on reporting.

Another possible option in 2019, if allowed by payer policy, is to report neonatal and pediatric critical care via telemedicine with Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes G0508 and G0509 with place of service 02 (telehealth).
