The interpretation of the terms with and in are unchanged in the 2020 International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) guidelines. Only a minor change was made to the related guideline to include instruction that the term with is sequenced immediately following sub- terms as well as terms in the Alphabetic Index, and not in alphabetical order.

However, it is good to revisit what the guidelines instruct for the words with and in.

The Table shows examples of use of the term with in the Alphabetic Index following a main or sub-term and in the Tabular List or code descriptor.

For conditions not specifically linked by these relational terms in the classification, or when a guideline requires that a linkage between 2 conditions be explicitly documented, health care professional documentation must link the conditions to code them as related.
