Effective April 1, 2020: The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has added a midyear change to International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM). The change aligns ICD-10-CM with the World Health Organization (WHO) ICD-10 by adding a chapter for the provisional assignment of codes for new diseases of uncertain etiology and a code for vaping-related lung injury. The new chapter and code information follows.

Codes U00–U49 are to be used by WHO for the provisional assignment of new diseases of uncertain etiology.
Assign code U07.0 for diagnosis, treatment, or management of any vaping-related disease or lung damage. List U07.0 first on your claim, with additional codes describing the manifestations (eg, J69.1, lipoid pneumonia) listed as secondary diagnoses.
